Nepal is a very beautiful country and very different from India. It is
also much more divers with real jungle and very high mountains
(the Himalayas). You can go on safari, river rafting and make beautiful hikes.
The first place on our visit in Nepal was at the border of Chitwan
National Park. It was very hot and humid here: real jungle! Here is a
picture of me at sunset, near the cocktail bar, where Bob Marley still
seems to be a regular customer. |

Here in Chitwan we made a safari on the back of an elephant trough the
tropical rainforest. I must say that riding on the back of an elephant is
more comfortable than riding a camel! We met
two adult rhinos with their newborn young. Rhinos are very aggressive, but
      not for elephants.

The above picture was taken by Gladys Klip, who is very skillful with her
      Nikon! |

This picture shows how an elephant would see the steppe in Chitwan
National Park. This picture was (again) taken from the back of an
elephant. I like this picture, for it shows the tranquility here in the
      park. |

Here is a picture of schoolchildren, waiting for their bus. It was too bad
that I didn't have more pencils to hand around. |

The next place on the tour is Pokhara. This is a beautiful village near
the Annapurna mountain. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of Pokhara.
But I do have this photo that I took at the Tibetan refugee camp. Here I
      visited a service.

You are free to go to a Tibetan service (but don't disturb it!). It is a
cacophony of sounds. Try it! |

      During our stay in Pokhara
we decided to go hiking in the Himalayas. We made a very heavy
climb to Ghore Pani (3300 meters).

Ghore Pani was the ultimate goal, for there you can be spectator of a
sunrise over the Himalayas (and especially the Annapurna).

The above picture shows one of the first views on the Annapurna, during
      our way up. |

This is a local girl that we met during our hike. She lives at the very
small and rocky road (with an awful lot of stairs) that leads us to Ghore
      Pani.

The picture above was taken by Gladys. |
     |

     |

On our way up (up, up, up and it never stops!) I took this
picture of one of the several beautiful waterfalls.

Due to the steep slopes of the mountains in this region, the current is
very strong and therefore the waterfalls are pretty impressive. |

This picture shows a little girl with here baby-brother. She is willing to
pose for the camera for a candy (of which we brought plenty for this
      hike). |
     |

     |

      F i n a l l y we reached our destination! We
stayed in the Punhill Guest House for the night. At dawn we had a
marvelous view, when the sun came up. This picture was taken not so long
      after sunrise.

But we didn't know yet how grueling this day was going to be, on our way
      back! |

Back in the civilized world we flew to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
And nearby Kathmandu is Bodnath, where Nepal's largest stupa is situated.

This picture is taken from the roof of that stupa. |
     |

     |

This beautiful picture (taken by Gladys) shows the same stupa. The
colorful flags to the top of the stupa are Tibetan prayer flags.

According to Tibetan religion, prayers will be fulfilled when they are
spread into the air (cosmos). Hence Tibetan people write their prayers on prayer flags, or put them in
      prayer wheels et cetera. |

In Patan (near Durbar Square) some women were sitting on the pavement,
taking care of each other's hair.

This offers a nice picture of the daily life here in Nepal. |

In Bhaktapur I shoot this picture of playing (skipping) schoolchildren at
      the local elementary school.

This picture reminds me of pictures of former days, here in the
      Netherlands. |

Here is another picture of the streetlife in Bhaktapur. A visit to
Bhaktapur is worthwhile, when you stay in Kathmandu. |

This is the last picture of the India - Nepal tour. I hope you
enjoyed this virtual tour as much as I did. I hope to visit Nepal again in
      future.

I would like to hear from you, if you
have any suggestions or comments. |
